This is a web - based implementation of converting HTML to well-formed XHTML using Chris Lovett of Microsoft\'s excellent SGMLReader. Chris\'s code has a command - line interface; however I needed an in-memory implementation for some work we\'re experimenting on that takes well-formed XHTML and converts it to RTF for display in a RichTextBox control. There are many other uses for XHTML compliant HTML, not the least of which is the fact that an XHTML page is a legitimate, well-formed XML document, which opens up a whole new range of possibilities for HTML processing when you think about it.

In a previous DevCenter News article, An XHTML-Aware Editor, Amy Cowen described how coders can use built-in customization settings and features to produce cleaner, more XHTML-aware code. Now, with the new version of HomeSite and ColdFusion Studio, it is even easier to code in XHTML. You can set XHTML-specific options, use coding tools that support the XHTML 1.0 specification, use an XHTML color coding scheme, use a CodeSweeper to reformat your code to be XHTML-compliant, and validate against the XHTML 1.0 specification, all without leaving the product.

XHTML Modularization makes it convenient to create specialized versions of XHTML: subsets with tailored content models and extensions in other namespaces. XHTML Modularization may be one of the most important new technologies of 2001. This article introduce the basics of XHTML modularization. The same approach can be used with many XML languages.

XHTML reformulates the existing HTML technology to be an application of XML. It is already used for mobile phone and PDA Internet sites, and expected to gain widespread use as XML becomes more popular. Dan Wellman explains the differences between XHTML and HTML 4, and shows how easy it is to make the switch.

Taking the long view of recent technology, XHTML may be the most important XML vocabulary ever created. What I mean is not that XHTML will be the most widely deployed XML vocabulary, though if we take the long view, it could be. What I mean is that XHTML puts XML\'s reputation -- and, by extension, the W3C\'s reputation -- on the line to a greater degree than any other XML vocabulary.

Particularly for long-term coders, XHTML\'s syntax requirements can mean big changes in the way HTML code is produced. From overlooking nesting problems to omitting closing tags, many coders have HTML habits that are at odds with XHTML\'s rules. Taking advantage of built-in Allaire customization settings and features can help coders with bad (or lazy) HTML practices produce cleaner, more XHTML-aware code.

Most Internet users know that web pages are made in something called HTML. Even if they don't know what that acronym stands for, or have never made a web page of their own in their life, the term HTML means something to most web users.

? What is dHTML? Tutorial Tutorial Written By: David Gardner What is DHTML? That's a great question, one that I admit I had a lot of trouble finding a straight answer to. I remember seeing a posting on a JavaScript newsgroup that attempted to answer this question with the reply: "DHTML is the combination of HTML and JavaScript" I said to myself "Isn't that just a webpage with JavaScript on it then?" I was confused, to say the least. After shuffling through hundreds of search results on...

DHTML in IE 4 As I began taking on and learning IE 4's implementation of DHTML, and realized that there's a lot more to it than its NS counterpart. DHTML in IE does not rely on any one tag, but rather, new objects and properties that stem out of the usual HTML tags you're used to working with, such as and . It's a lot more powerful, but at the same time, a lot more complicated to grasp. -The style object of IE 4 HTML elements in IE 4 now...
