Adaptive systems should be able to adapt to changes that occur in their operating environment without any external human intervention. Software architectures for such systems should be flexible enough to allow components to change their pattern of collaboration depending on the environmental changes and goals of the system. A drawback for using object-oriented models for describing software architectures for adaptive systems is their lack of effective means to represent collaborative behaviour between objects, if we consider that the capability of a system to be adaptable depends on how objects, as rigid entities, co-operate. This paper describes a co-operative object-oriented architectural style for the development of software for adaptive systems.

Modeling and simulation in support of adaptive ecosystem management can be better accomplished through a dynamic, integrated, and flexible approach that incorporates scientific and technological components into a comprehensive ecosystem-modeling framework. The Integrated Dynamic Landscape Analysis and Modeling System (IDLAMS) integrates ecological models and decision support techniques, through a geographic information system (GIS)-based framework. The Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (SERDP) sponsored the development of IDLAMS.

The file has been the central container of work in software development for over thirty years. All of a project's structure and logic is ultimately reduced down to files and directories. The tools that surround software development are built around this concept, too. This article explores the concept of file structure, and contrasts it with an emerging view of Model Driven Architecture.

Summary: Enterprises today are moving towards SOA as a way to expose their applications and data for consumption. Building solutions on top of these services is fairly easy today using existing development tools. Different vendors provide tools for both exposing and developing on top of those services by using standards like SOAP or WSDL. However, once enterprises start developing a few of these solutions problems start to arise. This article addresses some of the most common problems. (8 printed pages)
